Woodtech Forum ramps up preparations for Damietta’s first international trade event

With 60 days left, the organisers of Woodtech Forum are increasing preparations for Damietta’s—Egypt’s furniture manufacturing hub—first international conference and trade fair on November 26.

Organisations that have confirmed participation include the American Hardwood Export Council, EPF, EPLF, Hafele, Fantoni, SCM Group and Alfa Wood.

The development of Damietta Furniture City is expected to attract many important investments in timber machinery and design. Many international and local banks have indicated their intention to finance investments in furniture machinery, organisers said.

Rapid technological growth is expected, giving a new breath to the local furniture industry. New products which will be demonstrated in Damietta Furniture City are expected to be developed from high class materials and to be distinguished for their outstanding quality and design.

The Furniture City is poised to be an international meeting point for wood, furniture and machinery professionals. Egypt is growing again at a rate of 3.3 – 4.3%. Imports of plywood reaches more than 600.000 m3  annually while that of natural and artificial veneer is around 13 million sqm. The real estate sector is projected to grow by 70% by 2020, pointing to further demand for wood and furniture from the construction sectors.
