As furniture designs become more complex, manufacturers face growing challenges in translating creative concepts into precise, efficient and repeatable production processes.
Curved components, mixed-material structures, seamless edge treatments and demanding surface finishes often require closer coordination between design, processing technology and factory operations. When managed mainly through manual processes, these requirements can increase production time, labour needs and material waste.
Marking its 40th anniversary, WMF 2026, the China International Furniture Machinery and Woodworking Machinery Fair, will be held from 5 to 8 Sep 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Shanghai’s Hongqiao district.
The fair will bring together woodworking machinery suppliers, furniture manufacturers and industry professionals to explore technologies that support more efficient and flexible production.
Design questions, technology answers
A feature zone at WMF 2026, WoodTech Atelier, will connect finished furniture products with the processes and equipment behind them.
Complementing the machinery and production solutions displayed across the exhibition, participating technology suppliers will present finished products, samples and demonstrations to illustrate their technical capabilities and applications.
Visitors will be able to examine these products, understand the production processes involved and discuss with suppliers how specific technologies can be applied to their own manufacturing requirements.
Four focus areas
Exhibits for WoodTech Atelier will be organised around four key areas. The New Technology Showcase will feature newly launched technologies and equipment, including verified global or Asian premieres.
The Advanced Processing and Craftsmanship category will highlight processes that enable complex forms, structures, surface effects and improved production consistency.
The Material and Technology Integration category will focus on applications that combine different materials, such as wood-plastic composites, sintered stone and aluminium panels, as well as technologies adapted from other industries.
The Furniture Production Solutions category will present responses to specific production challenges raised by furniture manufacturers through finished products, samples and video demonstrations.
Technical themes expected to be featured include laser edgebanding, curved and special-shaped component processing, mirror-effect and translucent finishing, AI-assisted cutting optimisation, digital mortise-and-tenon processing, laser engraving, machine-vision quality inspection and material optimisation.
For furniture manufacturers assessing new processes or planning production upgrades, WoodTech Atelier will provide a focused route through WMF 2026. Visitors can compare technical approaches, identify relevant suppliers and discuss how different solutions may meet their production requirements, quality standards and efficiency goals.
