Wholesale sales of lumber exports exceeded CAD$60 billion for the very first time

CAD$60 billion (US$44.64 billion) mark for the very first time.

In total, wholesale sales of Canadian lumber exports hit CAD$60.2 billion (US$44.79 billion) as the robust growth of lumber export sales offset decreases in motor vehicle and heavy machinery export sales.

The growth was paved by the subsector of building materials and supplies, which set a new record high of CAD$8.4 billion (US$6.25 billion) in March 2017, a 10.6 per cent boost from March 2016 and a 3.9 per cent jump from February 2017.

In 2017’s first quarter, wholesale sales went up 3.6 per cent from the previous year’s last quarter, the highest quarterly jump since the second quarter in 2008.
