WATG Singapore announces promotion for I-Jin Chew and introduces Pang Cheong

WATG, one of the world’s leading integrated design firms, is pleased to announce the promotion of I-Jin Chew to Managing Director and introduce Pang Cheong as Vice President, Architecture to its growing team of designers.

A former lecturer and Singapore registered architect, I-Jin joined WATG in 2011. Her 24-year career in practice and academia has helped I-Jin forge stronger links with the local institute and educational establishments in Singapore, which has also been instrumental in recruiting the best local and regional talent. As a project architect, her work spans from interiors, private residential, community, institutional, and hospitality architecture. She has been a team member in key projects of WATG, some of which include Crowne Plaza Resort Hotel, Hainan, China, Intercontinental Resort Hotel Bali, Indonesia, and a Masterplan of 5 Luxury Resort Islands, in the Maldives. 

Pang Cheong brings over 25 years’ experience in architecture to WATG, designing significant projects across a wide range of sectors in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, China, India, and Southern Africa. Pang is passionate about the design process and adopting a design-by-research approach, working collaboratively with clients to create site and contextually responsive designs, along with a special interest in materiality, sustainability and creative detailing.

During his career, Pang’s global experience has seen him support and work in development aid, designing and implementing public housing, education and health projects in Zimbabwe.

At WATG, Pang provides leadership and design direction across a wide range of projects, with a particular focus on large mixed-use urban developments as well as commercial, residential, retail and hospitality.

Before joining WATG, Pang was Executive Principal at Aedas, Singapore, Associate Director at Bates Smart Architects, as well as senior designer at John Wardle Architects and Nation Fender Katsalidis in Melbourne, Australia. Pang’s global portfolio includes the Westin Hotel and Resort in Vietnam, Arbor Lanes Apartments in the Philippines, and Westfield Sydney City in Australia.
