The United States (U.S.) Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a US$526,000 grant to Northern Forest Centre, Inc., of Concord, New Hampshire, to help strengthen the economy of the Northern Forest Region of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York by providing wood product companies and related businesses in the region with technical assistance. According to grantee estimates, the project is expected to help create or retain 400 jobs and generate an approximate US$1.625 million in private investment.
“We commend the Northern Forest Centre, Inc. for working to increase the competitiveness of wood products businesses in the Northern Forest Region,” Deputy Assistant Secretary for Regional Affairs, Dennis Alvord, said. “I look forward to seeing how this critical technical assistance will help grow the wood products sector, which is vital to the region’s economy.”
The technical assistance this project provides will help to strengthen the economy of the Northern Forest Region by providing wood products companies with technical assistance; develop market demand in the wood heat industry through marketing and business technical assistance; and foster growth in the tourism industry by providing specialised technical assistance in marketing, product development, and business innovation.
