Tough outlook in 2017 for Malaysia timber industry

In the coming 2017, analysts are expecting Malaysia to weather anticipated tough times due to ongoing implementation of infrastructure projects, possible early elections, and pre-election spending.

The most concerning issue is the strengthening of the US dollar against most currencies, with the ringgit of particular concern.

According to RHB Research, the ringgit has weakened over 6 percent since the US election result was announced on November 8 and while there is an economic downside to this, it has helped exporters remain competitive.
