According to National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) and American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), the tariff exemptions of hardwood exports to China have been extended through 16 Apr 2022. It was initially set to expire on 17 Sep 2021.

The tariffs arose from the trade war between the US and China since 2018, and are applied to hardwood logs and lumber exports. Among some of the wood species and products affected are cherry, ash, jointed and non-jointed-end lumber.
