Sylva Wood opens its doors for its fourth edition

The opening ceremony at Sylva Wood 2018.

This year, June 25th to 27th marked Sylva Wood’s fourth edition. Set in the multi-cultural metropolis of Shanghai, Sylva Wood is the only specialised wood materials show in Asia that does not include any machinery or finished products. It has established itself to be the golden platform which enables international suppliers and buyers to gather, network and exchange insights, opportunities and ideas in reaching out to the China market.

With the success of past shows, Sylva Wood continues to attract global exhibitors such as the Russian wood suppliers — which forms the Russian Pavilion, American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) — forming one of the largest AHEC pavilions, French Timber, Canada Wood, the Shanghai Timber Trade Association, American Softwoods, Malaysian Timber Council, Quebec Wood Export Bureau, Smaland of Sweden and Thai Timber Association.

Visitors visiting the event come from countries as far as Austria, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, USA and Uruguay. In fact, Binh Duong Furniture Association (BIFA) along with their delegation of furniture manufacturers from Vietnam will be gracing the show too. The organiser, together with BIFA, will launch the inaugural BIFA Wood Vietnam this October to bring industry players closer to the Vietnamese wood processing and furniture manufacturers in the furniture cluster of Binh Duong, Vietnam.

“In terms of the furniture market, China has 6,000 local furniture enterprises that bring in a total revenue of US$140 billion and a profit of US$ 8.7 billion,” said William Pang, managing director of Shanghai Pablo Exhibition

“The show has been improving. It focuses on wood materials and is very useful for our members. We’ve got a pretty good number of visitors visiting and they are professional timber trade people. The members are very happy so I believe this is a quality show that is valuable for us,” said John Chan, AHEC’s regional director.

Sylva Wood continues to provide a great opportunity for global suppliers and buyers of wood materials and wood-based products to trade, network and exchange ideas on how best to expand reach into the China market – one of the biggest players in the timber industry.

The show, once a small cosy event, has become well-known in the timber industry for its special focus on wood. “We are overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response. Sylva Wood has expanded its footprint over the years, and in this fourth edition, we are looking at the interplay of big and small companies to bring the best in the industry to visitors,” said William Pang, managing director of Shanghai Pablo Exhibition.

The three-days show also has a line-up of exciting seminars including the exploration of ‘The Relationship Between Supply and Demand in the Chinese Timber Market’ and ‘Industry 4.0 in the Customised Furniture Industry’. In addition, the show is also bringing back the well-received ‘Sylva Wood FUN Hardwood Lifestyle Design Competition’.

Set in the multi-cultural metropolis of Shanghai, Sylva Wood is the only specialised wood materials show in Asia that does not include any machinery or finished products.

A solid platform for the wood materials market, Sylva Wood is endorsed by leading wood associations: French Timber, AHEC, US Softwood Export Council, Canada Wood, American Softwoods, the Malaysian MDF Manufacturers’ Association, the Shanghai Timber Trade Association Softwood Professional Committee, Malaysian Timber Council, and the National Hardwood Lumber Association.
