Steinemann highlights at LIGNA 2017

Steinemann, with its motto “Total Surface Quality” highlighted its digital technology competencies with the Board Quality Cockpit (BQC) and latest model in the satos family the SATOS TSQ. The new generation of sanding belts, the TSQ belts as well as the free-to-download Steinemann App were also introduced.

Board Quality Cockpit (BQC)


The Board Quality Cockpit brings in a new era. It integrates the sanding line into the process of wood-based manufacturing. Data becomes easier to exchange and the sanding process becomes significantly more efficient. 

The BQC is equipped not only with a machine and process data acquisition function, but also with a job, product and sanding belt manager. The system recommends the best settings based on relevant practical data stored in the controller. This system checks various parameters, lets the operator know when major deviations occur or when limit values have been reached. It then recommends suitable counter-measures to put the process back towards perfect surface quality.

BQC Basic is the entry-level or standard module. Many further modules and add-ons are under development. Amongst others are chatter mark detection and roughness measurement.

The new TSQ belts

The TSQ generation of sanding belts creates the perfect sanding medium for wood-based materials and ensuring your Total Surface Quality. The new belts were based on engineers’ research on particleboard and MDF sanding.

Satos TSQ the upcoming sanding machine generation

Over 50 years of experience with sanding technology and mechanical engineering were combined to give high-tech sensor and control systems in order to incorporate new, innovative functions into the new SATOS TSQ. 

This also was the right time to integrate the new Siemens TIA PORTAL. With a revised locking system and increased spacing the handling is significantly simplified. As this new locking device functions completely without loose parts, everything stays in its place. Another advantage for a simpler handling results from automatic belt oscillation. Once the target values have been entered in the controller and the sanding belts inserted, the sander can be started entirely automatically at the press of a button.

Integrated safety doors on the operator side allow for more productivity thanks to individual safety doors on each of the stacked units. This way, if the operator needs to intervene in the process or change a belt, he does not need to stop the entire machine module.

Steinemann offers an app for chatter mark calculation

The cause of chatter marks can be determined based on the distance between the chatter marks and several types of process and machine data. The app identifies the cause and displays the result. For this calculation, the app requires data on the geometry and process of the wide belt sanding machine, which are already stored in the App for most machines.
