Shortlisted for the 2017 Wood Awards, which featured some of the best British architectural designs in wood, the Nautilus is a minimalist, dynamic, hollow stair resembling the interior of a nautilus shell.
Built out of European birch and assembled on site with no visible connections whatsoever, t he 180 unique pieces of CNC cut ply – made from 10 layers of plywood 18mm thick – hide more than 300 oak dowels that keep the layers of ply from delaminating under tensile loads.
