Shenzhen will limit the use of harmful substances in furniture manufacturing industries with effect from January 1, 2017. The new regulation prohibits the use of a wide range of paints and adhesives.
The southern Chinese city is a major furniture production site with about 1,500 furniture enterprises, of which 300 are medium-to-large scale factories.
Local authorities have acted swiftly on limiting the use of air-borne volatile organic compounds (VOCs) since toxic emissions have become a major issue.
