SFIC introduces inaugural Sol Awards for Singaporean furniture industry

SFIC president, Phua Boon Huat

To commemorate outstanding industry individuals and enterprises who have made significant contributions to brighten the future of Singapore’s furniture industry, the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) will be presenting its new Sol Awards 2023 on 17 Nov 2023.

This is another one of SFIC’s initiatives to advance its three key pillars — market agility, urbanite-centricity, and enterprise adeptness — for Singapore’s furniture industry to lead the way to sustainable urban living.

Previously known as the Singapore Furniture Industry Awards (SFIA) from 2003-2013, the Sol Awards are introduced with brand new categories.

The new Sustainability Leaders Recognition (SLR) category, for instance, aims to recognise and encourage companies to continue in their efforts to integrate sustainability into their operations.

Judged by an independent jury panel, the award presentation will be held on 17 Nov at Conrad Singapore Orchard in conjunction with SFIC’s 42nd Gala Dinner.

These awards are part of SFIC’s efforts to align with governmental efforts to prioritise urban solutions and sustainability for future economic development in Singapore. They will serve to accredit those who maintain high productivity levels while fulfilling international climate commitments.

Casting a spotlight on excellence

Derived from “the sun”, the term “Sol” aims to highlight exceptional industry players who exemplify brilliance, vitality, inspiration, and noteworthy achievements within their areas of expertise.

The term also hopes to appeal to regional change-makers, fostering a platform for collaboration among innovative businesses within East Asia.

SFIC president Phua Boon Huat said local companies should continuously look for more innovative and sustainable strategies to keep up with the vast transformations in the global market.

“The Sol Awards aim to honour companies that have made significant contributions to the furniture industry in Singapore, adding to SFIC’s initiatives in catalysing enterprise adeptness for an urban-centric advancement of the local furniture ecosystem. We hope the awards will inspire companies to continue pursuing growth and green practices,” said Phua.

Six award categories

Of the six award disciplines, five industry awards share a common focus on promoting excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the furniture industry in Singapore. Each industry award focuses on competence in the categories of:

  • All-Star enterprise
  • Experiential excellence
  • Innovation in design
  • New entrant
  • Sustainability Leaders Recognition (SLR)

The final category, the Outstanding Individual Award, recognises and profiles middle management and staff within the furniture industry with remarkable and consistent performance within the industry.

This recognition aims to commend staff on their achievements and encourage them to continue cultivating innovative ideas and scaling new heights in their careers.

Gold, silver, and bronze awards will be presented in each award category. Each recipient will receive a winner’s package, including the SFIC Honour Certificate, public recognition for both individuals and companies, and an acknowledgement trophy that will be presented during this gala dinner.
