Sarawak upbeat about Japan’s plywood market

Sarawak exporters are upbeat about the Japanese plywood market as the recent price drop seem to have bottomed out. Japanese inventories are also expected to fall in the coming months.

Other encouraging factors are the strengthening Yen against major currencies as well as infrastructure investment in connection with the 2020 Olympics, according to the ITTO.

Ta Ann, a major plywood exporter reported an 11% fall in average plywood prices while log export prices were down around 10% in 4Q/2015.
