Situated in the dune of the Baltic Sea, a steep thatched roof in Latvia with a sloping exterior is a holiday retreat for the owner (an avid kitesurfer) and his family.
Designed by Lithuanian studio Archispektras, Dune House’s angular thatched roof referenced the grassy landscape and the architectures that surround it.

Laminated timber is used for the structural frame of the house while reed hatch covers most of the exterior wall on the other. Lining the ridge of the roof are timber planks and the interior uses Pine wood that referenced the rural architecture. The open airy interior also gives way to a wooden-burning stove along with an open-plan kitchen, dining area and living room.
