Global multidisciplinary architectural and engineering design group RSP Architects received the design award at Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) Architectural Design Awards 2023. The award recognised its work in collaboration with Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects for Nanyang Technological University (NTU) academic building south. Known as Gaia, the infrastructure is a six-storey mass engineered timber (MET) piece that spans approximately 220m in length.

Named after the Greek earth goddess, Gaia represents the collaboration with Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects and RSP, in design of education environments and sustainable architectural expertise. The six-storey construction serves as a hub for learning, research, and innovation, a place where NTU students, faculty, and staff collaborate.
The SIA Architectural Design Awards 2023 acknowledged the achievements of local architects and their contribution to broadening conversations about architecture within and beyond the discipline. The Design Award accredited RSP for their architectural design, engineering, and commitment to sustainability when building Gaia.
“This project symbolises the epitome of collaborative innovation, pushing the boundaries of design, sustainability, and construction techniques. We are honoured; it underscores our commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and innovation at RSP Singapore,” said Seah Chee Kien, senior managing director of RSP Singapore.
