The private sector will be contracted to undertake log harvesting and transport this year, according to the Deputy General Manager of the Extraction Department in the Myanmar Timber Enterprise (MTE)
MTE may rent out heavy machinery and elephants to contractors. Previously harvesting was suspended for a year, but will resume in fiscal year 2017-18 except Bago Yoma (also known as Pegu Yoma), the range of low mountains between the Irrawaddy and the Sittaung Rivers in central Myanmar.
It is understood that that potential contractors will be required to submit proposals to regional MTE officials who will then decide on contract allocations after consulting with the head office.
