Metsä Group has opened applications for summer jobs for 16–17-year-olds, with positions in forest planting and yard maintenance at mill sites across Finland.

The company said the programme aims to provide young talents with a safe and supervised introduction to working life.

Forest planting roles will be available in Jun at 16 locations, with employment lasting four weeks.

“We want to offer young people a positive and encouraging first contact with working life,” said Maritta Uutela, HR manager at Metsä Group. “For many, forest planting is their first paid job, and at the same time it is a concrete way to participate in sustainable forest management.”

Internship programme

Metsä Group will also employ young talents under the age of 18 at its production facilities through the Tutustu työelämään ja tienaa (Learn and Earn) internship programme.

The two-week placements will take place at mill sites in Joutseno, Lohja, Mänttä, Punkaharju, Renko, Simpele and Äänekoski.

According to the company, the internships allow young talents to experience an industrial working environment and take part in a range of tasks under adult supervision.

“For many young people, the Learn and Earn internship is an important step towards working life,” said Iida Lehtisalo, recruitment manager at Metsä Group. “It is important to us that young people have a positive experience, learn the basic rules of working life, and feel welcome as part of the work community.”

Students aged 16 or above in comprehensive education, upper secondary schools and preparatory education are eligible to apply.

The company said all jobs for minors are designed with safety and legislation in mind. Tasks are tailored to young workers, with induction and guidance playing a key role. No previous work experience is required, although applicants are expected to have a positive attitude and good physical condition.

More information and application guidance are available on Metsä Group’s website. The application period runs from 9 to 27 Mar 2026, and the recruitment process will be conducted anonymously.
