Meinhardt Group has announced that Er. Kam Mun Wai, Senior Executive Director, Meinhardt Singapore, has been awarded the Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Design and Safety Award 2020 for his cutting-edge engineering solutions in the construction of the Singapore Management University (SMU) Connexion Building, an on-site Net-Zero Energy building that will be fully solar powered. Meinhardt Singapore is the Civil, Structural and MEP Engineer for the five-storey green building located in the heart of the city.

The project team, led by Er. Mun Wai, designed and implemented Singapore’s first hybrid steel-CLT supported by prefabricated modular column-beam steel frames, avoiding the need to erect temporary structures over the carriageway. A pair of modified Pratt Trusses, spanning 27 metres were employed to support the building of the link. The lower segments of the trusses were designed and engineered to support incremental loads from the construction of the upper trusses, floor beams and CLT slab panels. This enabled the swift and safe construction of the upper truss segments and CLT flooring in a record time of seven days.
