Inspection systems manufacturer Baumer Inspection is presenting at LIGNA their latest inspection technology for flooring production, furniture and edge inspection, and the production of melamine paper-coated fibreboards.

ColourBrain Flooring 4.0
Designed for the optical inspection of profiled melamine paper-coated floorboards, the ColourBrain Flooring 4.0 is equipped with the latest enhanced defect detection and a new, intuitive user interface. It can inspect deep structures, small edge chipping and critical colour and overlay defects. On request, the system is also possible for other materials, such as luxury vinyl tile (LVT), stone polymer composite (SPC) and wood plastic composite (WPC).
It is ideally complemented by the ColourBrain V-Shape 5.0 system for checking the bevel coating of the V joint directly after coating application in the profiling line.
ColourBrain V-Shape 5.0
The ColourBrain V-Shape 5.0 improves upon the detection of contrast and gloss-based defects in flooring production. With it, coatings that do not contrast with the substrate can now be inspected and detected. The system is designed to be integrated into flooring lines, and is suitable for high production speeds in harsh environments. By connecting to the Q-Live management system, analyses for process optimisation are also possible.
ColourBrain Furniture 4.0
The ColourBrain Furniture 4.0 offers a double-sided inspection of foil-coated, melamine paper-coated and lacquered furniture panels. Surface defects such as bubbles, dents, fine cracks, scratches or shiny spots are detected, even in their smallest size — whether in, diagonally or transversely to the feed direction. An optional drill hole inspection also checks the completeness and position of drill holes as well as the profile deviations of grooves.
The system can be used both in batch production and in batch-size-one production for defect detection and process optimisation. In its ideal configuration, Baumer’s new illumination module is combined with the multiReflex inspection module to detect additional gloss defects. Together with the edge extension, a 360° inspection of furniture parts is possible.
ColourBrain Edge 4.0
The ColourBrain Edge 4.0 system inspects furniture parts in edgebanding machines from various manufacturers. It detects edge chipping, open glue joints, partially or completely missing edges and protruding edge bands, as well as geometric features like grooves and drill holes and their differentiation from defects. It can also detect topographical detects on artificial edges and on veneered or wood edges. For this purpose, directional line lasers are used, in addition to an incident light method.
The system can be used either in series production or in batch-size-one production for defect detection and process optimisation. It complements with the ColourBrain Furniture 4.0 system.

ColourBrain Panel 4.0
The ColourBrain Panel 4.0 system provides the optical inspection of melamine paper-coated fibreboards after pressing and edge trimming in the longitudinal direction. The components are inspected on both sides for decor defects and damage. A distinction can be made between process-related defects, such as heat streaks or paper misalignment, and sporadic individual defects, such as contamination. Precise evaluation is possible with Baumer’s FlashingSky technology, regardless of which conveyor belt is used. Due to the system’s compactness, it can be easily integrated into the existing transport.
Baumer Inspection will be at Hall 15: Stand G67.
