Japan’s total plywood imports reflected a variety of factors, a few of which are regional currency movements.
Malaysia and Indonesia were the main plywood suppliers to Japan with imports from China trailing at around 25% of those from the top suppliers. Imports of plywood from Indonesia in April picked up to the second highest over the past 12 months but are still some 10-15% below the average monthly volumes from Malaysia.
