Indonesian enterprises invited to invest in Laos

Laos is inviting Indonesian businessmen to invest in its forestry sector in an effort to attract foreign direct investments. Wishnu Krisnamurthi, Head of Economic Division of the Indonesian embassy in Laos said that Laos offers a wealth of logs, which are available for export.

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) will pay Laos a trade visit, following a visit to Indonesia from the Laos Furniture Association.

During the visit the head of the Lao delegation signed an MOU with HIMKI under which Indonesian companies will help with the development of timber processing.

The Lao government in August 2015 and May 2016 prohibited the export of logs and “lightly processed sawnwood”. This had an immediate impact on timber exports particularly those to China.
