The investment increases warehouse capacity by 50% and introduces AI-supported automation to support continued growth across Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
Fischer has invested more than €4m in a fully automated logistics centre in Spain, marking the company’s first such facility outside Germany.
Located in Mont-roig del Camp, in Spain’s Tarragona province, the logistics centre will increase Fischer’s warehouse capacity on the Iberian Peninsula by 50% and serve as a distribution hub for Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
The facility was inaugurated by President Salvador Illa of the government of Catalonia and Alexander Bässler, CEO of Fischer Group.
According to the company, the investment follows continued business growth in the region.
“This fully automated warehouse marks a new phase for our operating subsidiaries,” said Prof Klaus Fischer, owner of Fischer Group.
“It strengthens our logistics capacity on the Iberian Peninsula, our efficiency and our ability to continue to grow. The investment is the logical consequence of the continued growth of our company in the region over the past decade,” he added.
The 5,000 sq m facility is equipped with an AutoStore system comprising 10 autonomous robots, more than 14,000 intelligent containers and AI-supported software to optimise order picking and improve processing times.
Fischer said the automated system enables greater operational flexibility while helping the company respond more efficiently to growing customer demand.
The company also highlighted the facility’s energy efficiency. The 10 robots consume around the same amount of energy during operation as a household vacuum cleaner, making the facility one of the most energy-efficient automated logistics solutions globally.
