China’s timber industry will transform in the next five years

According to government’s 13th Five Year Plan for Forest Industry Development, the total value of China’s timber industry output will reach 8.7 trillion yen. The plan projects a transformation of China’s timber industry from resource orientation to innovation and that management will shift from “extensive” to “intensive” through technology upgrading. The plan also envisions the emergence of a core of leading enterprises.

The structure of China’s forestry and timber industry has altered considerably over the past five years. The scale of the industry has expanded and there has been a consolidation in several sectors.

The total value of China’s forestry industry output in 2016 was 6.49 trillion yen. In 2017 it is forecast to exceed seven trillion yen, double that of five years ago.
