Cameroon imposes 20% log export tax

Cameroon has confirmed a 20 percent increase in log export tax. Authorities will also further tighten checks on export documentation.

It will also introduce a mandatory bar code system for log identification, used for sawnwood. According to the ITTO, the country will ban the harvest and export of bubinga for a year.

Producers said that existing stocks of bubinga logs and sawnwood will be subjected to inspection by the Forest Department before they can be approved for export.
