The Built Environment (BE) leaders’ summit took place on 6 Sep 2023, while the BEX Asia 2023 exhibition will run from 6-8 Sep 2023 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore.
Under the International BE Week (IBEW), the two events were opened by Desmond Lee, minister for national development and minister-in-charge of social services integration. They serve APAC BE sector, providing a platform for learning, networking, and showcasing solutions from Singapore and around the globe.
BEX Asia 2023
BEX Asia 2023 addresses the need to diversify the industry’s supplier base by presenting over 250 market-ready products. These range from nuts and bolts to advanced solutions in green materials, smart building solutions, mixed reality training, building information modelling (BIM) and digital twin technology from 7 international and association pavilions, with 178 companies representing over 250 brands from 14 countries.
Further, BEX Asia, in partnership with Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC), a continuing professional development (CPD) points accredited complimentary seminar series will be held on 8 Sep 2023 at the technology demonstration area stage in Hall B on a first-come-first-served basis. Additionally, BEX Asia exhibitors will host other complimentary seminars, award ceremonies and networking events in this three-day programme.
BEX Asia 2023 will also track the carbon footprint generated by attendees. Attendees are encouraged to provide their mode of transportation and BEX Asia will display individuals’ CO2 emission on phones, while a cumulative dashboard will flash the total emissions at the greenhouse gases (GHG) mitigation project engagement booth in Hall B. Together with its exhibitors, Camfil and ebm-papst, donations will be made to the Plant-A-Tree programme to offset the event’s carbon emissions.
BE leaders’ summit
“This summit [brought] leaders from across the BE value chain to a conference that [sparked] interdisciplinary dialogues and [generated] solutions to the industry’s challenges. Meanwhile, the exhibition [provided] the industry a platform to accelerate their transformation as envisioned by the BE Industry Transformation Map (ITM) 2025,” said Yip Je Choong, managing director of RX Singapore and Indonesia.
The summit, themed ‘Lateral thinking in a vertical world’, was curated with Singapore’s BE ITM 2025 in mind and focused on four pillars: Organisational transformation, digitalisation, advanced manufacturing as well as innovation and technology. The speakers were Zack Kass, technologist and futurist; Shane Snow, author of ‘Smartcuts’ and co-founder, Contently and SHOWRUNNER; John Hamalian, director, South East Asia, Lean Enterprise and Manminder Takhar, global CTO for global smart cities, Dell Technologies.
“The inaugural BE leaders’ summit [was] an opportunity for companies like Keppel to share our sustainable urban renewal (SUR) solution. Keppel’s approach to SUR brings people, AI-driven technology and processes together to uplift asset valuation of aged commercial buildings,” said Tan Szue Hann, head of sustainability and deputy general manager at Keppel real estate division.
