2nd Chinese University Timber Structures Design Competition
How about plunging into a swimming pool and coming up for air under a wood-framed roof? This year’s Chinese University Timber Structure Design Competition challenged students to design a natatorium that would wow the judges.
The second Award Ceremony, held in Nanjing Tech University (NTU) on Nov 19, recognises excellence in wood design and encourages university students and teachers to consider this material as a structural element among in their projects. The design competition also provides a platform for talented students who would, in future, go on to propagate wood design in their careers.
Liu Weiqing, vice principal of Nanjing Tech University delivered the opening remarks and welcomed participating teams and all judges. He also acknowledged Canada Wood China for its strong support for the competition.
Professor He from Tongji University expressed her high expectations for students’ works and wood-frame construction’s future.
Eric Wong, managing director of Canada Wood China stated that CW China is looking forward to seeing more student participation and learning about wood-frame construction. As the organisation for promoting Canada’s lumber industry, Canada Wood China will support programmes favouring wood construction, increasing export opportunities for Canadian lumber.
The first prize went to the team from Southeast University. Tongji and Nanjing Tech University bagged second and third prize respectively.
