The newly opened plant features the highest-capacity LVL press in the world - is the most technologically-advanced manufacturing facility of its kind. The plant will primarily manufacture LVL structural beams for residential and commercial construction, reported Woodworking Network.

Roseburg is a manufacturer of particleboard, plywood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and thermally-fused laminates.

When fully operational, the plant will employ at least 145 workers.

Much of its customer base is from east of the Mississippi, and having a plant in the Eastern U.S. is a logical step, said Roseburg.

“This is an exciting strategic growth opportunity in a business that has done well for us,” Grady Mulbery, Roseburg president and CEO said in a statement. “With the continued increase in housing starts in the southeastern U.S., we see ongoing demand growth for engineered wood products in the region and elsewhere."

This is the company's second engineered wood plant. Its other operation in Oregon manufacturers RFPI joists, RigidLamLVL, and RigidRim rimboard.

The company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, in which South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster toured the plant. Other attendees included local and state politicians, regional officials, and 100 recently-hired employees.
