Editor’s pickNurturing the next generation to understand wood
Hello Wood,next generation,builders,art camp,architecture
What better way to proliferate wood in architecture than to educate the next generation of builders.
In 2010 Hello Wood, a Hungarian design firm, launched an art camp for students in architecture and design, which has now grown into a unique international project involving more than 20 universities and 30 countries.
Every year the programme welcomes 150 university students and young professionals from around the world.
Teams are made of 6-8 students and led by experienced workshop leaders. They develop and realise their concept and work in teams for a week. Every team works with 3-4 m3 of wood.
The programme is carried out with several universities, including Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest, TU Delft ot Angewandte Vienna.
All work is made from wood; they must integrate art and a social cause. Installations are exhibited at the Sziget Festival in Budapest every year.
