Thomaston Sawmill in Upson County, Georgia, United States (U.S.), will be getting an investment from Interfor Corporation as part of its Southern Investment Strategy’s Phase II.

In total, Interfor will be rebuilding five sawmills as well as provide major modernisation, according to WMGT, in order to raise efficiency and boost production in the South by about 425 million board feet a year. The total combined cost for both Phase I and Phase II is estimated to be US$305 million.

“Forestry has always been a key economic driver in Georgia, and Interfor’s commitment to our state is significant. Projects like this open the door for more opportunities for our workforce,” Governor of Georgia, Nathan Deal, said to WMGT. “The impact that Interfor will have in Georgia goes far beyond jobs and investment, and I look forward to their continued growth.”
