Brazil’s wood products trade surplus rose 12% YoY in the first half of 2016 to reach US$3.3 billion, according to the ITTO.
Total revenue from exports of sawnwood, panels, pulp and paper totalled US$3.8 billion up slightly from the same period in 2015. Exports of wood-based panels doubled to 443,000m3 compared to the same period in 2015.
Brazil’s forestry sector has been focusing on export has a strategy to buffer against declining domestic demand. Domestic sales of wood-based panels fell 4.2% YoY to 3.2 million cubic metres.
