Brazil: Forest products exports up 11.4% in first 11m of 2017

Brazil’s planted forest sector boasted export earnings of US$7.7 billion, an 11.4 per cent increase, between January and Nov 2017, bringing trade balance to US$ 6.8 billion, an increase of 13 per cent year-on-year.

In the first 11 months of 2017, pulp exports reached US$5.7 billion (+14.1%); paper exports, US$1.7 billion (+ 2.3%); and wood-based panels, US$266 million (+18.8%).

Between January to November 2017 shipments of wood-based panels increased 26 per cent, reaching 1.17 million cubic metres.

Latin America continues to be Brazil’s main markets for paper and wood-based panel exports, raking in US$139 million, up almost 15 per cent YoY. Exports also rose significantly in Asia and Oceania while domestic sales were up four per cent to reach 5.9 million cubic metres.
